Senators’ Thomas Chabot Out Week-to-Week

Chabot blocked a shot from Flyers’ defenceman Ivan Provorov in the second period on Monday night. Chabot had an x-ray during the game but was able to finish the contest. However, after the medical staff reviewed the injury further, it was deemed Chabot will, in fact, miss some time. Chabot finished the game with 24:32 minutes of ice time while registering one assist.

In 62 games this season, Chabot has tallied 13 goals and added 36 assists for 49 points. He is currently tied for eighth among defenceman in scoring. He is also averaging 24:04 minutes of ice time per game, which leads the Senators.

Over his career, Chabot has scored 22 goals and added 52 assists for 74 points in 126 games.

Chabot was originally drafted by the Senators in the first round, 18th overall in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft.

What This Means for the Future

Although Ottawa’s season is over, Chabot is still hoping to get back into the lineup before they close it out on April 6th against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

With Chabot out of the lineup, Christian Jaros is expected to draw back in. Jaros has missed the last four games with a hamstring injury.

In 50 games for the Senators this season, Jaros has scored one goal and eight assists.

Christian Wolanin is expected to receive a bump in powerplay time with Chabot out as well.

Even if Chabot is not able to return to the Senators lineup before the end of the season, he is expected to play for Team Canada at the upcoming IIHF World Championships which get underway on May 10th. Chabot represented Canada at the tournament last year, where the club finished fourth after losing the bronze medal game to Team USA.
