Philadelphia Flyers Jakub Voracek Suspended Two Games

The NHL Department of Player Safety has announced that Philadelphia Flyers forward Jakub Voracek has been suspended for two games. This is his first career suspension.

Jakub Voracek Suspended

Jakub Voracek is suspended for two games due to an incident with the New York Islanders Johnny Boychuk With 14:19 left in regulation. Voracek got a five-minute interference penalty, but returned to the game. The suspension will cost him $88,710.

Shayne Gostisbehere played the puck around the boards to the opposite corner where Voracek is waiting to get possession. Boychuk raced in from the blue line and moved towards Voracek. The Flyers forward throws a reverse hit that knocks Boychuk down to the ice and forces him to leave the game. Boychuk did not return to the game and evidently missed practice today.

The 29-year-old forward he scored 18 goals and 43 assists for 61 points in 66 games. He also added 21 penalty minutes. His possession numbers are 50.3 percent Corsi and a relative Corsi of 1.4.

The Klado, Czech Republic native has played for the Columbus Blue Jackets and the Flyers in his 11-year NHL career. He has put up 193 goals and 441 assists for 634 career points in 834 career games. Columbus drafted him in the first round, seventh overall of the 2007 NHL Draft.

Voracek wasn’t pleased in getting the interference penalty and brought up a past incident involving Boychuk and Nolan Patrick.

What This Means for the Future

The Flyers forward has been a bright spot in a tough season for the club. He’s third on the club in overall points behind Claude Giroux and Sean Couturier. Voracek is second in assists behind Giroux.

He did play 242 games prior to last Sunday, but will miss games against the Ottawa Senators on Monday and the Washington Capitals on Thursday. Philadelphia sits five points behind the Montreal Canadiens and the Blue Jackets for the second wild card spot.
