New Jersey Devils Taylor Hall Has Knee Surgery; Mirco Mueller Out of Hospital

Taylor Hall

The New Jersey Devils have announced that forward Taylor Hall had successful knee surgery earlier in the week. New Jersey also announced the defenceman Mirco Mueller was released from the hospital after crashing into the end boards on Wednesday night.

Taylor Hall Undergoes Knee Surgery

Last season’s Hart Trophy winner has been out of the lineup since Dec. 23 with a lower-body injury. Hall originally suffered the injury in practice on Dec. 14th and missed four games before returning to action. In his first game back, Hall was reinjured and has not played since Dec. 23rd. He also missed three games earlier in the season with a hand injury.

The Calgary native has 11 goals and 26 assists and 37 points on the season in 33 games played. He has also recorded 16 penalty minutes. His possession numbers were 53.8 percent Corsi and a relative Corsi of 6.5 percent.

Hall has played for the Edmonton Oilers and the Devils during his nine-year NHL career. He has 202 goals and 309 assists for 511 career points in 562 career games. Edmonton originally drafted him first overall in the 2010 NHL Draft.

There is no timetable for Hall to return to the lineup.

Mirco Mueller Out of Hospital

Mueller left Wednesday night’s game against the Calgary Flames after crashing into the boards with Michael Frolik. Mueller looked to be unconscious, but did give a thumbs up when taken off the ice.

The 23-year-old was was giving chase to a puck early in the third period when he crashed into the boards with Frolik. He was sitting up and responsive according to Devils’ coach John Hynes.

Mueller has scored a goal and nine assists for 10 points in 46 games this season. The Swiss forward also has 17 penalty minutes. His possession numbers are 48.8 percent Corsi and a relative Corsi of 2.0.

The Winterthur, Switzerland native has played for the San Jose Sharks and the New Jersey Devils in his five-year NHL career. He has three goals and 17 assists for 20 career points in 128 career games. San Jose originally drafted Mueller in the first round with the 18th overall pick of the 2013 NHL Draft.

What This Means for the Future

It’s good news to see bot players back on the mend. Hall should take his time to get back into the lineup because the Devils look to be out of playoff contention.

Mueller’s injury looked serious, but it looks like he’ll be back sooner rather than later. The team will be careful before having him back in the lineup.
