Martin Hanzal Placed on IR
Hanzal is continuing to have back troubles. He came back to the team after his third back surgery of his career. Stars head coach Jim Montgomery said that the 31-year-old may be out long-term.
The Czech forward has a goal and an assist in seven games this season. Hanzal also has four penalty minutes. His possession numbers were 42.6 percent Corsi and a relative Corsi of -4.6.
Hanzal has played for the Arizona Coyotes, Minnesota Wild and Dallas Stars over his 12-year NHL career. He has 127 goals and 211 assists for 338 career points in 673 career games. The Coyotes originally drafted him in the first round, 17th overall of the 2005 NHL draft.
Jason Dickinson Out for Dallas
Dickinson left the Dec. 22 game against the Minnesota Wild with back spasms. He’s already missed two games because of the ailment.
The Georgetown, Ontario native has five goals and six assists for 11 points in 34 games this season. Dickinson also has 16 penalty minutes. His possession numbers were 43.8 percent Corsi and a relative Corsi of -4.3.
Dickinson has played just for the Dallas Stars over his four-year NHL career. He has eight goals and eight assists for 16 career points in 72 career games. Dallas originally drafted him in the first round, 29th overall of the 2013 NHL draft.
What This Means for the Future
The moves cap a wild day for the Stars as team CEO Jim Lites used some colorful language to describe top players Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn. He questioned the pair’s effort despite a 2-0 victory over the Nashville Predators on Thursday night.
The Stars occupy the second wild-card spot in the Western Conference but they are just one point clear of the Vancouver Canucks and two points away from the Edmonton Oilers. If Benn and Seguin do not play better, Dallas could miss the playoffs.
