Anaheim Ducks goaltender John Gibson is considered day-to-day with an upper-body injury. The injury occurred on Thursday night against the San Jose Sharks. He is questionable for Saturday’s game against the Arizona Coyotes.

Anaheim Ducks John Gibson Injured

It’s uncertain when exactly Gibson sustained the injury. Gibson played the whole first period but was replaced by backup goalie Chad Johnson to start the second period. Johnson finished the game and the Ducks went on to lose by a score of 4-2.

Gibson has been putting together a fine season so far this year for the Ducks. He has a record of 15-11-4 with a goals-against-average of 2.53 and a save percentage of .927. His play so far this season has put him in early Vezina Trophy conversation.

Gibson was originally drafted by the Ducks in the second round of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. Over his six-year career, Gibson has a record of 108-66-24 with a goals-against-average of 2.33 and save percentage of .924.

Injury Riddled Ducks

The Ducks just can’t seem to shake the injury bug this season. The team is already without Corey Perry, Rickard Rakell, Cam Fowler as well as Ryan Miller. The Ducks have managed to stay in the playoff hunt (currently sitting in the top wild-card position) despite all the injuries. However, Gibson’s play can be credited for most of their success. Losing him for an extended period of time could prove to be detrimental to their playoff hopes.

With Gibson out and Ryan Miller still a month or so away from returning, Chad Johnson will take over as the teams’ starting netminder. Johnson was claimed off waivers from the St. Louis Blues on December 11th.

In two games with the Ducks this season, Johnson holds a record of 0-2 with a goals-against-average of 2.42 and save percentage of .911. He also appeared in 10 games for the Blues, posting a record of 2-6 with a goals-against-average of 3.55 and a save percentage of .884.
