The Ottawa Senators announced that they will be without goaltender Craig Anderson as well as defenceman Justin Falk at least through the weekend. Both players are out with concussions. There is no timetable for either players’ return.
Senators Craig Anderson and Justin Falk Out with Concussions
Anderson sustained his injury on December 21st in a game against the New Jersey Devils. Anderson took a hit to the head from Devils forward Miles Wood.
Anderson currently has a record of 14-13-3 with a goals against average of 3.58 and a save percentage .905.
Additionally, over the length of his career, he has a record of 275-220-66 while posting a goals against average of 2.80 and a save percentage of .914. He also has 41 shutouts over his career.
Anderson has been with the Senators since the 2010-11 season.
Falk sustained his injury on December 22nd against the Washington Capitals. He signed with the Senators as an unrestricted free agent on November 30th. He has yet to register a point in 10 games with the club.
What This Means for the Future
With Anderson injured, the Senators have called up Marcus Hogberg to take his place. Hogberg holds a record of 3-3 with the Belleville Senators of the AHL. He has a goals against average of 2.32 and a save percentage of .916.
We won’t have to wait long to see Hogberg get his first NHL start as the Senators play back to back on Friday and Saturday night. Mike McKenna, who is currently Anderson’s backup, is expected to get the brunt of the workload. However, with only 33 games of NHL experience over his career, Hogberg could potentially become the starter in Ottawa if Anderson is out for an extended period of time.
The Senators will visit the New York Islanders on Friday night before hosting the Stanley Cup Champion Washington Capitals on Saturday.
