Montreal Canadiens Recall Victor Mete

The Montreal Canadiens announced that they have recalled defenceman Victor Mete from the Laval Rocket. In turn, they have sent down defenceman Noah Juulsen. The news came after the Canadiens 4-0 loss at the hands of the rival Boston Bruins.

Canadiens Recall Victor Mete

Mete was sent down to the Laval Rocket on November 29th for a short stint. In seven games with the Rocket, Mete scored one goal and added three assists. This season with the Canadiens, Mete has accumulated four assists in 23 games. Mete will travel with the team to Colorado on Tuesday.

In a corresponding move, the Canadiens demoted Noah Juulsen. Juulsen returned to the Canadiens lineup on December 11th after missing nine games with a facial fracture suffered on November 19th against the Washington Capitals. In 21 games with the Habs this season, Juulsen has scored one goal and added four assists.

What This Means for the Habs Moving Forward

Mete gets a second chance at earning a full-time roster position with the Canadiens. Mete is a promising young defenceman who possesses the puck moving ability the Habs are lacking on the left side. The Habs may look to pair Mete with captain Shea Weber as they did at the start of last season.

For Noah Juulsen, he gets a stint in the AHL and a chance to play bigger minutes to get his legs back. Juulsen will certainly get top pairing minutes with the Rocket, which will help him rediscover his game. Surely the demotion won’t be an extended one, and Juulsen should be back in the Canadiens lineup in the coming weeks.

The Canadiens will visit the Colorado Avalanche in Denver on Wednesday night.
