Washington Capitals Christian Djoos out Indefinitely

The Washington Capitals announced that defenseman Christian Djoos is sidelined for indefinitely after undergoing a surgical procedure on his left thigh.

Christian Djoos Injured

Djoos was injured Wednesdayy during the Caps game vs the Detroit Red Wings. Complications from the injury arose leading to Djoos having surgery on that left thigh.

So far this season, Djoos has four assists to go along with two minutes in penalties. His possession numbers were 49.6 percent Corsi and a relative Corsi of +2.4 percent.

Over his two-year NHL career, Djoos has played for the Washington Capitals. He has three goals and 15 assists for 18 career points in 91 career games. He was originally drafted by the Washington Capitals in the seventh round, 195th overall in the 2012 NHL draft.

What This Means for the Future

Djoos was playing on the third pairing alongside Brooks Orpik before both players got hurt. Already missing Orpik the Caps third pairing suffers a hit with Djoos out. Last season Djoos played in only 28 regular season games but played in all 22 of the Caps Stanley Cup Playoff games last season. Before joining the Caps last season, Djoos had spent the prior two years playing in the AHL for the Hershey Bears. In those two seasons, he appeared in 128 games tallying up 21 goals and 56 assists for 77 points.

The Caps will now roll out a very inexperienced third pairing that has a combined 77 games of experience. Madison Bowey who has 72 games of experience under his belt will be paired up with Jonas Siegenthaler. There are a few teams including the Edmonton Oilers who will certainly be in the market to acquire a defenseman. You can add that Caps to the list as well. The Caps don’t need anything long-term on the blue-line so they will most likely look within to fill up the third pairing.
