The Washington Capitals announced that forward Tom Wilson is sidelined with a concussion. It is not clear how long he will be out.

Tom Wilson Injured

Earlier this week, Wilson was on the receiving side of an illegal check from Vegas Golden Knights forward Ryan Reaves. Reeves was given a game misconduct for the hit and Wilson didn’t return to the game.

So far this season, Wilson has scored eight goals and six assists for 14 points to go along with 21 minutes in penalties. His possession numbers are 47.7 percent Corsi-For and a relative Corsi of +0.9.

Wilson has spent his entire six-year NHL career the Washington Capitals. He has 43 goals and 75 assists for 118 career points in 402 career NHL games. He was originally drafted 16th overall in the 2012 NHL draft by the Washington Capitals.

What This Means for the Future

Wilson missed the beginning of the season while serving a 14 game suspension. Since returning to the Caps line-up he has put up 14 points in 11 games. Wilson has always been known for his physicality but his offensive game is starting to come alive. This injury now puts the Caps without two of their top forwards as forward T.J. Oshie hasn’t played since November 13th after suffering a concussion. Andre Burakovsy gets the first chance to move up to the top line during Wilson’s absence.

Wilson has been a part of the Caps PP unit that is currently sitting at 26.4 percent this season. He has two goals and two assists on the man advantage this year along with a short-handed goal. The Caps will hope to see him back in action sooner rather than later.
