Florida Panthers forward Vincent Trocheck was taken off the ice late in the first period with an apparent leg injury.

Vincent Trocheck Injured

Trocheck fell awkwardly while fighting for a puck along the boards late in the first period in Monday’s game against the Ottawa Senators. The Pittsburgh native collided hard into the end boards and then fell. Nothing was malicious on the play. He remained on the ice for several minutes while doctors tended to his right leg

Trocheck has scored three goals and 11 assists for 14 points in 18 games this season. He also has 26 penalty minutes. His possession numbers were 54.6 percent Corsi and a relative Corsi of 2.7.

The 25-year-old has only played for the Florida Panthers in his six-year NHL career. He has 94 goals and 132 assists for 226 career points in 328 career games. Florida originally drafted him in the third round, 64th overall of the 2011 NHL draft.

There’s no update on the severity of the injury. However, the injury looked gruesome and he could be out for sometime. We’ll try to have updates on Trocheck’s status when we get them.

What This Means for the Future

The loss of Trocheck will be a severe one. He is the second-line centre and eats up several minutes on the power-play. Trocheck is fifth on the team in points and tied for third coming into Monday’s game.

Florida is struggling right now and sits at the bottom of the Eastern Conference with 17 points. Trocheck is a player that can help jumpstart a run up the standings, but he is likely out for the foreseeable future.

The Panthers have been bit by the injury bug most of the season as Roberto Luongo for the early part of the season.

Trocheck’s injury has capped a busy night for medical officials as a Senators fan was treated by paramedics after an emergency. The fan was taken away in an ambulance.
