The Tampa Bay Lightning got some terrible news on Thursday as starting netminder Andrei Vasilevskiy will be out indefinitely with a fractured foot. The news was first reported by TSN’s Darren Dreger.

Lightning Goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy Out with Fractured Foot
The 24-year-old Vasilevskiy was off to a solid start this season. He holds a record of 9-3-1 with a .927 save percentage and a 2.27 goals-against-average. Last season, Vasilevskiy finished with a record of 44-17-3, posting a goals-against-average of 2.62 and a save percentage of .920. He also finished third in Vezina Trophy voting.
Vasilevskiy is currently being evaluated by team doctors. An update on his status should come later today.
Tough Break for the Lightning
The news of the Vasilevskiy injury is a tough pill to swallow for the Lightning. They currently sit on top of the Atlantic with a record of 12-5-1. With Vasilevskiy out the Bolts will have to rely on back up goalie Louis Domingue to take the brunt of the workload. In five starts this season Domingue has a 3-2 record and holds a goals-against-average of 3.43 and a save percentage of .887. With the Atlantic Division being so tight right now, Domingue will need to pick up his play if the Bolts want to keep pace.
Vasilevskiy has spent his entire five-year NHL career with the Lightning. He has a 94-52-12 record with a 2.58 goals-against-average, .916 save percentage and 13 career shutouts. Vasilevskiy was the Lightning’s first-round pick, 19th overall, in the 2012 NHL Draft.
Tampa Bay has yet to announce who will be recalled from the Syracuse Crunch to replace Vasilevskiy. We expect it will be Connor Ingram, as he is waiver exempt. Ingram currently holds a record of 2-3 for the Crunch. Ingram has posted a goals-against-average of 3.44 and a save percentage of .890 with one shutout so far this season.
