Over his 10 year NHL career, Winnik has played for the Pheonix Coyotes, Colorado Avalanche, San Jose Sharks, Anaheim Ducks, Toronto Maple Leafs, Pittsburg Penguins, Washington Capitals and Minnesota Wild. He has scored 82 goals along 169 assists for 251 career points in 798 games. He has four assists in 63 career Stanley Cup Playoff Games. Winnik was originally drafted in the 9th round, 265th overall by the Coyotes in the 2004 NHL Draft.

Last season Winnik scored six goals and 17 assists for 23 points in 81 games. He also added 27 minutes in penalties. He also added an assist in five Stanley Cup Playoff games last season. His possession numbers were 44.7 percent Corsi with a relative Corsi of -3.1 percent. Winnik is coming off one-year, $660,000 dollar contract that he signed in October 2017.

What This Means for the Future

The veteran journeyman will be looking to join his ninth team for the upcoming season. If Winnik makes the team, expect him to find a role on the fourth line for the Bruins. Winnik also gives the Bruins the option of putting him either at center or on the wing. His versatility may help him land a job. It will be interesting to see where Winnik ends up fitting in with the Bruins.

If he doesn’t find a home in Boston, he can (and most likely) will find another in the NHL. He’s a solid player and a leader who would fit well on a younger team. Definitely not a superstar or a great player, but he’ll do a team a lot of good in the right role.
