The New Jersey Devils announced on Wednesday that Martin Brodeur would be returning to The Garden State. The NHL veteran is joining as the Executive Vice President of Business Development, after leaving the St. Louis Blues front office on Tuesday.

Martin Brodeur Named Executive VP Of New Jersey Devils
The Devils are very excited to bring back the seven-time NHL All-Star, who spent all but one of his 21 season NHL career with New Jersey. Brodeur manned the net for New Jersey from 1991 to 2014, setting a record of 688-394-154 in that time. Over that stretch, he won three Stanley Cups, four Vezina Trophies, five Jennings Trophies and was named the Rookie of the Year as the Calder Trophy winner in the 1993-94 season. Brodeur leads the NHL in all-time wins and shutouts, as well as being tied with Braden Holtby‘s 2014-15 season for the most single-season wins. His number was eventually retired by the Devils.
Brodeur isn’t new to a front office role. After retiring with St. Louis in January of 2015, Brodeur almost immediately joined the Blues staff. At the time of the hiring, the team wasn’t sure if he’d stay with them for longer than the few months left of the 2014-15 season. This was mainly due to the uncertainty of him returning to New Jersey. Brodeur stuck around for three seasons, though, and was replaced by the Blues Director of Scouting, Bill Armstrong.
Brodeur told NHL.com that he was excited to pursue the business side of the NHL. “This unique opportunity will allow me to build on existing relationships in the business community and take on a new challenge in my career.” Ray Shero, Devils GM, also expressed his excitement. “We are all thrilled to have Marty back with the organization. I said last season that it was an exciting time to be a Devils fan, and that’s especially true today.”
