Kyle Quincey Signs in Finland with HIFK

HIFK of the Finnish SM-Liiga has signed free agent defencemen Kyle Quincey to a one-year deal. The team is based in Helsinki. Quincey finished last season with the Minnesota Wild.

Over his 13-year NHL career, Quincey has played for the Detroit Red Wings, Los Angeles Kings, Colorado Avalanche, New Jersey Devils, Columbus Blue Jackets and Minnesota Wild. He has 36 career goals and 122 career assists in 586 NHL games. Quincey has added nine assists in 56 career Stanley Cup Playoff Games. His best year was during the 2008-09 season when he scored four goals and 34 assists for 38 points in 72 games with the Kings. He was originally drafted in the fourth round, 132nd overall in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft by the Red Wings.

Last season, he had three assists in 18 games. He also added 28 minutes in penalties. His possession numbers were 41.4 percent Corsi with a relative Corsi of -7.8 percent. Quincey is coming off a one year, $1.25 million dollar contract that he signed in July 2017. Quincey was placed on waivers by the Wild on November 29th, 2017.

What This Means for the Future

Quincey will look to find a spot with HIFK, impress in Europe and make his way back to the NHL. Last season he only played in 18 games wasn’t able to solidify a spot with the Wild for the season. Quincey is 6-foot-2, 210 pounds and has shown some puck moving ability in his career. He will look to transition to a new country and league for next season. Quincey will look bring his experience to HIFK. This was the first time in six years Quincey didn’t play in a Stanley Cup Playoff game.
