Dylan Larkin Re-Signs With the Detroit Red Wings

Larkin has played for the Detroit Red Wings all three years of his NHL career. He has put up 56 goals and 84 assists for 140 career points in 242 career games. He was originally drafted in the first round, 15th overall of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft by the Red Wings.

Last season he scored 16 goals and 47 assists for 63 points. He also added 61 minutes in penalties. His possession numbers were 50.7 % Corsi and a relative Corsi of +2.9.

What This Means for the Future

The Red Wings offence struggled mightily this season, but Larkin was one of the bright spots for the team. Larkin registered career-high in assists with 47 and points with 63. He showed a lot more confidence at the centre position and is a future locker room leader.

Larkin parlayed his regular season success into the IIHF World Championships, where he helped Team USA win the bronze medal. The former Michigan Wolverine total.ed three goals and six assists for nine points in the tournament. He also served as an alternate captain for American and Red Wings head coach Jeff Blashill.

The 21-year-old also played well at the 2017 World Championship when he scored two goals and eight assists for 10 points. Team USA placed fifth in the tournament in Germany.

Detroit is in line for a long and painful rebuild and Larkin is going to play a hand in it. He’ll need to have a big season if the Red Wings want to surprise the doubters that are expecting a bad year in Hockeytown.
