The Dallas Stars have re-signed restricted free agent forward Mattias Janmark to a one-year contract worth $2.3 million. This contract carries him through the 2018-19 season. He will be a restricted free agent with the right to file for arbitration when it expires.

Mattias Janmark Re-signs With the Dallas Stars
Janmark has played only for the Dallas Stars in his two-year NHL career. He has put up 34 goals and 29 assists for 63 career points in 154 career games. The Detroit Red Wings originally drafted the Stockholm, Sweden native in the third round, 79th overall of the 2013 NHL draft. Dallas acquired Janmark as part of the Erik Cole trade in the 2014-15 season.
Last season, he scored 19 goals and 15 assists for 34 points and also added 24 minutes in penalties. His possession numbers were 49.8 percent Corsi-For and a relative Corsi of -2.0.
What This Means for the Future
Janmark played a big part of the Stars offence after missing the 2016-17 season with osteochondritis dissecans in his knee. He managed to play in 81 games and finished fifth on the team in points.
Some thought that Janmark playing that many games after such a serious condition was a minor miracle. That performance led him to be the team’s nominee for the Bill Masterton Trophy.
The 25-year-old came at a bargain as his cap hit was only $700,00. This pay raise was well-deserved and he’ll be a key piece for new coach Jim Montgomery.
Janmark was also able to play the speed-based game that helped him get 15 goals in his rookie season. His speed may lead him to the breakout season that the Dallas brass wanted to see.
He also helped Sweden win the gold medal at the 2018 IIHF World Championships, where he scored four goals and six assists for 10 points.
With Martin Hanzal still recovering from back surgery, Janmark could play a big role early in the year.
