Washington Capitals Sign Brooks Orpik

Defenceman Brooks Orpik is back with the Washington Capitals. He has agreed to a one-year contract worth $1 million. The deal also includes a potential $500,000 in bonuses. If Orpik hits his bonuses, he will be paid the same amount as he was due in his recently bought-out deal. Orpik was traded by the Capitals to the Colorado Avalanche in late June as part of the Philipp Grubauer deal. The Avalanche bought out the final year of Orpik’s contract, making him an unrestricted free agent.

Brooks Orpik Signs with the Washington Capitals

Orpik returns to the Capitals where he was part of the team that won the Stanley Cup. He clocked just under 20 minutes a night on average this past season. Last season he scored 0 goals and 10 assists for 10 points. He also added 68 minutes in penalties. His possession numbers are 43.7 percent Corsi and a relative Corsi of -6.5. Orpik scored on goal and four assists for five points in 24 Stanley Cup playoff games on the Capitals march to the cup.

His totals are slightly lower compared to the 2016-17 season, where he scored 0 goals, 14 assists for 14 points. Over his 15-year NHL career Orpik has played for the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Washington Capitals. He has put up 16 goals and 169 assists for 185 career points in 982 career games. Orpik has added three goals and 21 assists for 24 points in 149 career playoff games. He was originally drafted in the 1st round, 18th overall of the 2000 NHL draft by the Penguins.
