Every fanbase has those players. Those players that, despite their absolute domination of your team, you can’t help but respect them. Alex Ovechkin, in leading the Washington Capitals to the 2018 Stanley Cup, has cemented his spot on that list for just about every fan in the NHL. For a long time, Ovechkin was considered the best player in the NHL who didn’t have a championship. The whispers weren’t whispers, so much as blatantly spoken:
“Yeah, he’s great, but he can’t win a Cup.”
