The Chicago Blackhawks signed free agent forward Dominik Kahun to a two-year entry-level contract worth $925,000 per season plus bonuses. This contract carries him through the 2019-20 season.

Dominik Kahun Signs With the Chicago Blackhawks
The German forward is only one of three undrafted players to receive max “A” and “B” bonuses. Tyler Bozak and Sergei Plotnikov are the only two other undrafted players to get that level of bonuses on their entry-level deals.

Kahun played the last three seasons with Red Bull EHC Munchen in the German DEL. Red Bull won the league title those last three years and Kahun played a huge part in the victories. The 22-year-old registered 41 points in 42 regular season games. He added 14 points in 17 playoff games.
Kahun was part of the German Olympic team that surprisingly won the silver medal. He netted two goals and three assists for five points in seven games.
The signing was part of four announced by the team. Chicago also signed defensemen Lucas Carlsson and Darren Raddysh and goaltender Kevin Lankinen on Thursday.
What This Means for the Future
Stan Bowman must see something in Kahun if he’s putting this type of money into an undrafted free agent. Kahun’s production in Germany and on the international level drew plenty of interest. Kahun would follow a path to the league similar to David Kampf‘s if he makes the league.
This signing is the continuation of Bowman’s plan to make the forwards younger. Kahun would join players like Alex DeBrincat as future cornerstones. He’ll also be a welcome addition after the retirement of Marian Hossa.
Bowman has managed to get Chicago to over $6.2 million of cap space, so the rebuild may be a quick one. The Blackhawks will also have the eighth and 27th overall picks in the upcoming draft. This will allow the team to add quality young players quickly.
