Tomas Tatar Traded to Vegas Golden Knights
With little time to spare, the Red Wings completed a deadline day trade with the Golden Knights. The Golden Knights acquired Tomas Tatar while the Red Wings will get three draft picks in return.
Key Players
In Tatar, the Golden Knights get a player that has shown flashes of brilliance but could be even more of a scoring threat. This season he scored 16 goals and 12 assists for 28 points. He also added 24 minutes in penalties. His possession numbers are a 49.81 percent Corsi and a relative Corsi of 1.84. Those totals are down compared to last season, where he scored 25 goals, 21 assists for 46 points. Over his seven-year NHL career, Tatar has played exclusively for the Detroit Red Wings. He has put up 115 goals and 107 assists for 222 career points in 407 career games. He was originally drafted in the 2nd round, 60th overall of the 2009 NHL draft by the Detroit Red Wings.
What This Means for the Future
General manager Ken Holland and the Red Wings continue their rebuild and get $5.3 million off of the books. The team did just re-sign Tatar to a four-year contract extension in the off-season, but Detroit wanted to go to the 2018 NHL draft in Dallas with at least a dozen picks.
Detroit has tried to move him and Gustav Nyquist the past couple of season said Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman earlier in the month. Both forwards in the on and off the market during that period.
The Golden Knights get a player that has been a 20-plus goalscorer that has the potential for more if put with the right linemates.
