Set to be an unrestricted free agent in the summer, Colton Sceviour will not have to worry about his team for next season. The Florida Panthers agreed to terms with the forward on a three-year extension worth $3.6 million. He will remain with the Panthers through the 2020-21 season.
“When I came here two years ago, I talked about wanting to come to a team that was looking to have some success and win,” Sceviour said in a phone interview. “The young core, I think it’s something we’re just getting better. I felt like I wanted to be a part of that moving forward.”
At 28 years old, Sceviour could have been looked at as a potential trade target ahead of the NHL’s February 26th deadline. His versatility in the lineup and penalty killing make him a sought-after target. However, the Panthers did not give teams the chance.

Colton Sceviour Signs Three Year Extension
An essential part of the Panthers penalty kill, Sceviour averages 2:25 per game shorthanded. Overall, he ranks second among forwards in total shorthanded ice time at 111:45. He leads all forwards with 43 blocked shots, with a team-leading 18 of them coming on the penalty kill. Since joining the team in 2016, Sceviour has logged the second most shorthanded time among forwards with 272:39 minutes.
Drafted by the Dallas Stars during the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, Sceviour made his debut in the 2010-11 season. He only played one game that season, though. He registered his first NHL point in 2012-13, a year he also appeared in just one game. in 170 games for the Stars, Sceviour had 28 goals and 34 assists.
Spending seven years with the Stars organization, he signed a two-year contract with the Panthers in 2016. He would post a career-best 11 goals that season. In his career, Sceviour has posted 44 goals and 56 assists in 297 career games. He registered his 100th NHL point on February 1st with a goal against the Buffalo Sabres.
This season Sceviour has seven goals and seven assists in 46 games for the Panthers.

“Colton is a hard-working, versatile player who has become a key part of our success on the penalty kill,” General Manager Dave Tallon said. “He has earned this contract extension through his dedicated work ethic, compete level and character. A reliable two-way player, Colton is an important part of our team both on the ice and in our locker room, for now and for the future.”
With the three-year extension, Sceviour joins seven Panthers signed for at least three more seasons. Aaron Ekblad, seven seasons, and Aleksander Barkov, four seasons, are some of the other notable players.
Two Un-Restricted Free Agents Remain For Panthers
The Panthers have two players remaining who are set to be unrestricted free agents. Forward Radim Vrbata and goaltender Harri Sateri will see their contracts end after this season.
Jared McCann, Connor Brickley, Alexander Petrovic and MacKenzie Weegar will be restricted free agents at the end of the season.
