The Ottawa Senators announced that forward Bobby Ryan is sidelined for both of this weekend’s game with a hand injury. Ryan will miss Saturday’s game against the Philadelphia Flyers and the Super Bowl Sunday matinee against the Montreal Canadiens.

Bobby Ryan Injured
The Cherry Hill, New Jersey native had scored a power-play goal in the third period of Thursday night’s overtime win over the Anaheim Ducks but left the game shortly after that. This is the fourth time this season that the 30-year-old has been sidelined due to a hand injury. It’s also the eighth time Ryan has missed time because of hand problems since he joined the Senators in the 2013-14 season.
Ryan was sidelined for eight games after breaking his finger on Oct. 21 and sat out another game after reinjuring on it on Dec. 21. He missed another pair of games in Jan. because of the same injury.
So far this season, he scored 7 goals and 13 assists for 20 points. He also added 10 minutes in penalties. His possession numbers were 49.2 percent Corsi and a relative Corsi of 3.5.
Over his 11-year NHL career, Ryan has played for the Anaheim Ducks and Ottawa Senators. He has put up 230 goals and 262 assists for 492 career points in 708 career games. Ryan was originally drafted in the 1st round, 2nd overall of the 2005 NHL draft by the then-Anaheim Mighty Ducks.
“He’s seeing a specialist now and we’ll know the extent of it,” said Ottawa Senators head coach Guy Boucher on Friday when he talked to the media. “The injury is not the same thing. It’s the same finger, but it’s not the same thing. It’s not on the bone itself, it’s more joint related and stuff so it’s a little complicated.”
What This Means for the Future
The Senators had just snapped a six-game losing streak on Thursday and are 15 points back of the second wild-card spot going into Friday night’s games. Ryan’s injury woes have been a major reason why Ottawa likely won’t get to repeat its deep playoff run from last season.
Colin White was slated to be sent down to be sent down the Belleville Senators of the AHL, but will now get to be on the same line with Matt Duchene and Mike Hoffman.
