Calgary Flames Place Jaromir Jagr On Waivers

Jaromir Jagr has been placed on waivers today by the Calgary Flames. Jagr and the Flames came to a mutual decision to place Jagr on waivers in an effort to terminate his contract with the team. If Jagr clears waivers, his contract will be terminated, and he can then explore his options. Jagr is expected to clear waivers and look to play in Europe.

This season, Jagr scored just one goal and six assists for seven points. Playing in only 22 games so far, Jagr has been not what the Flames expected when they signed him on October 4th. The 24-year-vet has not registered a point since November 30, 2017, and has not played since New Year’s Eve.

Jagr’s Legacy

In his career, Jagr has scored 766 goals and 1,155 assists for 1,921 points. The 766 goals have Jagr third in league history behind Wayne Gretzky and Gordie Howe. His 1,155 assists puts Jagr at fifth in league history. 1,921 points put him second in NHL history behind only Gretzky. Jagr has also won the Art Ross Trophy a staggering five times, four of those were consecutive.

With Jagr expected to play in Europe once he clears waivers, there is a good possibility that this could be Jagr’s final NHL contract. Jagr spent 24 years in the league starting back in 1990. He won back-to-back Stanley Cups in 1991 and 1992. Jagr has also won the Hart Memorial Trophy and was a finalist four additional times.

Father Time finally caught up with Jaromir Jagr. This season should not take away from what Jagr did throughout his career. He is still considered to be one of the best to ever play the game of hockey. Jagr is a lock to get inducted into the Hall of Fame, in Toronto, when he becomes eligible.
