The New Jersey Devils announced that left wing Marcus Johansson is sidelined for at least a week with a head injury. He has been placed on injured reserve.

Marcus Johansson Injured
Johansson was elbowed by Boston Bruins left wing Brad Marchand in the third period of a contest on Tuesday, January 23, 2018. The NHL Department of Player Safety gave Marchand a five-game suspension for the play.
So far this season, he scored five goals and nine assists for 14 points in just 29 games played. He also added 14 minutes in penalties. His possession numbers were 48.3 percent Corsi and a relative Corsi of -1.3.
Over his seven-year NHL career, Johansson has played for the Washington Capitals and New Jersey Devils. He has put up 107 goals and 197 assists for 304 career points in 530 career games. He was originally drafted in the first round, 24th overall of the 2009 NHL draft by the Washington Capitals. He was acquired by the Devils over the summer.
What This Means for the Future
This is Johansson’s second concussion this year, the first left him sidelined for 13 games earlier this season. The former 20 goal scorer has had a rough season, his goal totals this year are not a reflection of his potential. He is still young, he can make a comeback and get back into the 20+ goal range given the opportunity and right circumstances.
The Devils called up forward Kevin Rooney from the AHL. Rooney, 24, played four games for the Devils last season without scoring a point. In 41 games with Binghamton this year, Rooney has nine goals and nine assists for 18 points. Rooney was undrafted and played his college hockey for Providence, before signing with the Devils as a free agent.
