World Juniors: Finland Selection Camp Roster Named

Miro Heiskanen

The 2018 World Junior Championships are right around the corner. Countries are starting to pick their teams. 16 forwards, nine defencemen and three goaltenders were named to the Team Finland Selection Camp Roster for the 2018 World Junior Hockey Championships today. The 28-man camp will eventually need to be whittled down to a 23-man final roster, likely 13 forwards, seven defenceman and three goaltenders.

This team should have a strong defence. Some of the more recognizable names on the blueline include Vancouver Canucks prospect Olli Juolevi, Dallas Stars prospect Miro Heiskanen, Boston Bruins prospect Urho Vaakanainen, and Chicago Blackhawks prospect Henri Jokiharju.

Upfront, the Finns have Carolina Hurricanes forward Janne KuokkanenFlorida Panthers prospect Aleksi HeponiemiWinnipeg Jets prospect Kristian Vesalainen, Nashville Predators prospect Eeli TolvanenMontreal Canadiens prospect Joni Ikonen and 2018 draft eligible Rasmus Kupari in training camp.

Finland is looking to get over their ninth-place result in last year’s tournament. However, they won this tournament in 2016. They also won the Under-18 World Championship in 2016. The majority of the 2016 U-18 team will be part of this year’s World Junior Team. Finland plays their first tournament game on December 26th, against Canada, in Buffalo, New York.
