After rumours circulated on Monday that a David Pastrnak trade could be coming, the hockey world went nuts. It was reported by Brian Lawton on Twitter that it wouldn’t shock the analyst if the young winger were to be moved. On Tuesday, Boston Bruins general manager Don Sweeney put those rumours to bed. Sweeney insisted that the Bruins management has no plans to move the talented winger. Pastrnak, 21, is still a restricted free agent, reports suggest that Pastrnak’s camp and Bruins management aren’t close to signing a new deal. Whether it’s a bridge deal or a long term commitment.

Bruins would be foolish to look into a David Pastrnak trade

Pastrnak excelled with the Bruins last year and was one of their best players by far. With the clubs history and how they traded away their young stars such as Phil Kessel and Tyler Seguin, you can’t help but be nervous if you’re a Boston fan. Make no mistake, Pastrnak’s value is incredibly high on the market and could get Boston a solid return. Although trading a stud winger like Pastrnak could leave them hung out to dry in the future.

Pastrnak’s value to the Boston Bruins

Pastrnak finished with 70 points last season (34 goals, 36 assists) in 75 games played. He ranked second among all Bruins skaters in point totals. Brad Marchand ranked first with 85 points. Pastrnak ranked second second in points-per-game with 0.93. Marchand sat atop of the list with 1.06 points-per-game. Pastrnak also led all Bruins in powerplay goals with 10. This time it was Marchand who took a seat in second with nine of his own.

Pastrnak and Marchand were tied in second among Bruin skaters with 24 powerplay points. Pastrnak would go on to rank second in Bruin skaters in points-per-60 with 2.98 on the season. Marchand ranked first with 3.16. Pastrnak had a 1.51 in goals-per-60, leading all Bruins skaters.

David Pastrnak was tied for second among Bruins skaters with Ryan Spooner in assists-per-60, sitting at 1.47 for the both of them. Last but not least, his possession numbers were off the charts too, his Corsi For at 5-on-5 was 57.8%, not only can he score but he can keep possession too. A young player like Pastrnak is sitting atop of lists with an elite forward in Marchand. That shows just how valuable he is for the Boston Bruins.

What’s fair value for a David Pastrnak trade?

If the Bruins were to make a Pastrnak trade, what could be fair value? the answer is, nothing astonishing for the Bruins future. Management would be upgrading the team’s veteran and experienced core, assuming that Boston would likely get someone that’s older than Pastrnak. There are deals that the Bruins could get somewhat fair value for Pastrnak in a trade, but overall it would be a loss for them down the road.

Pastrnak wins no matter what happens

Whichever turn this David Pastrnak saga decides to take, it’s a win-win for the talented winger either way. If Pastrnak inks a deal with the Bruins, he doesn’t have to pack his bags and can continue playing for the team that drafted him.
