The Hockey world was hit with bitter news. Former NHL player Eddie Olczyk announced that he has been diagnosed with colon cancer. Olczyk said he will be going under treatment for soon including chemotherapy. Eddie is an analyst NBC Sports and does broadcasts for the Chicago Blackhawks games. Olczyk stated ” I have been working with outstanding health care professionals and expect to be back in the broadcast booth after I complete my treatment ”

NHL Career
Eddie Olczyk, a Chicago native was selected third overall by the Chicago Blackhawks in 1984. He finished his career registering 742 points with 1,031 games under his belt. He also won a Stanley Cup with the New York Rangers in 1994, while playing alongside Mark Messier. Olczyk found himself in many different jerseys throughout his career. He played for the Chicago Blackhawks two times after signing with them in the 1997-1998 offseason for his second stint. He also played for the Toronto Maple Leafs, Winnipeg Jets, New York Rangers, Los Angeles Kings and the Pittsburgh Penguins.
NBC Statement
NBC Sports executive producer and president Sam Flood stated that Olczyk will not be broadcasting to start the 2017-18 NHL season, but NBC is looking forward to having him back after his treatment and chemotherapy. He also said that everyone at NBC sports is rooting for him and his family through this hard time. Flood stated that their top priority is for Eddie to get healthy again so he can return when he’s cleared to.

Different look
It’ll be different for a lot of fans who tune into NBC to not see Eddie Olczyk, but you can be sure all of his supporters will be behind him and will be looking forward to see him make his return later on. He’s a warrior and he’ll give it all he’s got, as he always has.
