Montreal Canadiens goaltender Carey Price has signed an eight-year contract extension for an annual cap hit of $10.5 million. The contract will see Carey Price make $84 million over the course of the contract that expires at the conclusion of the 2025-2026 season. This new deal will see Price become the highest paid goaltender in the NHL.

Carey Price Signs a Contract Extension with the Montreal Canadiens
Ultimately, there is still one more year remaining on his current contract so this extension will not take effect until after the 2017-2018 season. Price signed his current contract in July, 2012. This season, Price will earn the remaining $6.5 Million that is left on the six-year, $39 million deal. The contract also includes a modified No Trade Clause and No Movement Clause.
Last season, the 29-year-old played all but 20 games for the Canadiens on route to a Atlantic Division title and playoff birth. In 62 games last season, Price recorded 37 wins, including including shutouts. His 37 wins ranked Price six last season in the NHL behind the likes of Braden Holtby and Sergei Bobrovsky. Furthermore, Carey Price finished the regular season with a .923 Save Percentage and a 2.23 Goals Against Average. These numbers placed Price 7th and 5th in the NHL respectively. These numbers ultimately led Price to a top three finish for the Vezina Trophy but they weren’t as spectacular as fans around the league have been accustomed to from the All-Star goaltender.
Career
Since joining the NHL in 2007 after being selected 5th overall by the Montreal Canadiens in 2005, Carey Price has done nothing but be one of the best goalies in the league. After a solid rookie campaign which saw Price record 24 wins in 40 starts and saw him post a .920 Save Percentage, the AnahIm Lake, BC, native has continued to deliver. In 500 career starts, Price has amassed 270 wins while also sporting and 2.40 GAA and .920 SV.
During the 2014-2015 season, Price had the best season in his career to date. In 66 starts, Price set a career high in wins with 44 and in Goals Against Average with a mark of 1.96. To top of a spectacular year, Price managed to win the Vezina Trophy, Hart Trophy and Ted Lindsay Award as the most outstanding player as voted by his peers. By wining all three awards, Price became the first goaltender since Dominik Hasek in 1998 to accomplish this great feat.
