Foo had a big breakout season for Union College this past campaign, scoring 26 goals and 62 points in just 38 games. For context, Jimmy Vesey had 24 goals and 46 points in 33 contests in his senior year for Harvard. Foo placed fourth in the nation among all skaters as a junior behind seniors Zach Aston-Reese, Mike Vecchione, and Tyler Kelleher. The former two are NHL signees by the Pittsburgh Penguins and Philadelphia Flyers. Kelleher was an AHL signee by the Milwaukee Admirals, the Nashville Predators affiliate.

Overall Foo placed third in points per game (1.63), tied for seventh in power play goals (11), sixth in overall man advantage points (26) and 12th in shots per game (3.97). He teamed with Vecchione as the best one-two punch in college for the Dutchmen. Both seemed to feed off of each other’s improved games. The two combined for just 21 goals and 54 points in 2015-16. The improved shot generation was key, as Foo did not even place in the top 100 in terms of shots per game last campaign compared to his rise this season.

Analysis

An Edmonton native,

Highlights from this past year show that he could be a weapon on a frequently anemic power play with a wicked wrist shot and the vision to thread a pass through skates. At 23, he already possesses solid size at 6’0″, 185 lbs.

Before college, Foo played for the Bonnyville Pontiacs interestingly enough from the AJHL, the same league top 2017 draft prospect Cale Makar rose his stock in as a defenseman this past season. Foo had a 40-goal season in his second campaign back in 2013-14.

Ben Kerr Report

LWOH’s Ben Kerr had this to say about Kerr in his Top College Free Agents Article: “Foo is having an outstanding season playing with fellow college free agent prospects Mike Vecchione and Sebastian Vidmar. He has put up 22 goals and 56 points in 34 games and is amongst the top scorers in the country. Foo also plays a solid two-way game and is a key penalty-killer for Union. Foo is a quick skater with very good agility and balance.  He has good vision and playmaking skill off the wing, and is good at playing a give-and-go style game with Vecchione.”
