Brad Treliving Signs Extension With Calgary Flames

With some uncertainty in the air reported in Calgary about Brad Treliving possibly leaving the Flames for another gig, ownership today quelled those rumors by signing their General Manager to a multi-year extension.

Brad Treliving Signs Extension With Calgary Flames

The move comes after spending three seasons with the club posting moderate success, compiling a 125-108-18 record since he took over on April 28th, 2014 with two playoff appearances in 2014-15 and this past spring, winning a series in 2015. His team made a 17-point improvement after a disastrous 2015-16 that saw the bottom fall out with them finishing fifth-worst in the NHL. The improvement coincided with him finding his head coach in the form of Glen Gulutzan last summer, one that saw him dismiss Bob Hartley after four seasons.

“We are striving to create a level of continuity and stability, as all successful teams do,” said Flames President of Hockey Operations Brian Burke to Flames.com. “Today’s announcement is another step forward for our organization on that path. Under Brad’s leadership, we have seen progress over the past three seasons and look forward to building on that growth in the coming years.”

Prior to Calgary, Treliving carried experience that bounced him back and forth from the AHL to NHL in the then-Phoenix Coyotes organization. Spending nine years as the General Manager for the San Antonio Rampage from 2002-2011, he was named Assistant General Manager of the Coyotes in 2007 and held the position until he left in 2014. He spent 2011-2014 in the same position as GM for the Portland Pirates when the Coyotes moved parent teams.

Treliving added, “To be able to continue with the group we have here, upstairs and downstairs, that’s what gives you the most satisfaction. We think we’ve got something here. Now it’s up to all of us to see that through.”
