Sidney Crosby

Sid the Kid. Not quite a kid anymore. Where does one begin when talking about Sidney Crosby? The Great One himself said that Crosby is the best player in the NHL right now. He has won two Stanley Cups with the Pittsburgh Penguins, two Hart trophies, two Art Ross trophies, the list goes on. He has battled many injuries in his career, and has managed 749 games in 12 seasons. In those 12 seasons, he has 366 goals, 627 assists for 993 points. But, Crosby will forever be known for scoring ‘The Golden Goal’ for Team Canada at the 2010 Olympic Games. Crosby has won two Olympic golds for Canada and captained the 2014 team in Sochi.

Jaromir Jagr

The ageless wonder. Jaromir Jagr is a fitness freak. This season Jagr became the NHL’s second all time leader in points, behind Wayne Gretzky and ahead of Mark Messier with 1897. Jagr turns 45 in February, yet still doesn’t miss a beat. He entered the league in 1990 playing for the Pittsburgh Penguins. Since, he has played for seven other teams, including the Florida Panthers where he’s played the last two and a half seasons. The Iron Man has played 1679 games tallying 758 goals and 1139 assists. He has won two Stanley Cups throughout his career. Every time you think he’s going to hang em’ up, he keeps coming back for more.

The NHL’s top 100 list is a reminder of the kind of hockey that we’ve been treated to over the years. Over the next hundred years there is sure to be more active NHL’ers added to the list. This is just a small sample of the kind of athletes, hockey and history that we are fortunate enough to witness. What a tremendous sport.
