Dallas Stars play by play announcer Dave Strader released a press statement on Wednesday concerning the cancer diagnosis he received earlier this year. In June of 2016 Strader was diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma, a rare, aggressive, and untreatable form of cancer after discovering a tumour in his bile duct.
” It has meant so much to me, my wife Colleen and our entire family to know that we are not in this fight alone. I will work as many games as my condition and my treatments allow.”
In his statement Strader thanked fans for their support saying “There is no cure for my cancer. However, at this point in time, it is treatable. With advancements in all areas of cancer treatments evolving so quickly, I’m fighting every day and doing everything the doctors tell me. The Stars’ organization, the fans and the entire NHL family have been so supportive. It has meant so much to me, my wife Colleen and our entire family to know that we are not in this fight alone. I will work as many games as my condition and my treatments allow. Thank you again for all your love and support.”
Dallas’ Dynamic Duo
Strader took over the Stars play by play duties last year, and along with colour commentator Daryl “Razor” Reaugh, the pair quickly became what many considered the top broadcasting duo in the league.
Strader is known for his unique voice, and strong commentary, but above all he brings an upbeat and fresh view on hockey. He describes it using cliches that are solely his own. As we are so often reminded to pay close attention to the fading careers of the NHL‘s brightest stars, be sure to tune in to the Stars’ broadcasts as often as possible this year. Strader and Reaugh are a tandem that deserve to be heard as much as possible.
