Kentucky Signs Four Star Grant Godfrey

Kentucky Signs Grant Godfrey

Instant Impact Player At Position Of Need

Throughout the years, Kentucky’s had great success recruiting in the state of Georgia. Most recently Trevin Wallace, who’s had a great couple of years in Lexington. That pipeline paid off again as Mark Stoops picked up another big-time commitment. Let’s look at what kind of player they’re getting as Kentucky signs four-star Grant Godfrey.

Another Highly Rated Player

Godfrey comes to Lexington from North Gwinnett High School in Suwanee, Georgia. Currently, he ranks as the 336th best player in the nation by 247 Sports. Furthermore, he’s the 32nd-best player in the Peachtree State and 27th best linebacker in the nation. The six-foot-three 215-pounder chose the Cats on August 1st over Tennessee and Wake Forest among his reported 28 offers.

Recruited to Kentucky by Chris Collins and Brad White, Porter recorded 69 tackles in 2022 including 11 for a loss. In addition, he has seven sacks, a forced fumble, and an interception. During his career, Porter has 185 tackles and 20 sacks.

An Athletic Family

Porter comes from a long line of great athletes. Godfrey’s father, Randall, is a former Georgia linebacker who was named SEC Freshman of the Year in 1992 and earned All-SEC honors in both 1993 and 1994, according to 247Sports. Played in the NFL from 1996-2007, earning second-team All-Pro recognition in 2000. His brother RJ signed with Clemson as part of the 2022 class.

We’ve told you what kind of player the Cats are getting as Kentucky Signs Four Star Grant Godfrey. Now let’s look at how he fits in on the Wildcat defense.

Chance For Early Playing Time

The Wildcats are losing two greats in Jacquez Jones and DeAndre Square to graduation. In addition, junior J.J. Weaver went through “Senior Day” festivities and is taking a hard look at the NFL. If he leaves then the Cats have to replace their entire starting linebacking group. The Cats do have Wallace returning along with  D’Eryk Jackson and Keaton Wade. That means playing time is certainly available for Godfrey.

Thanks for checking out our recap here at Last Word On College Football as Kentucky signs four-star Grant Godfrey. Currently, the Wildcat class ranks 43rd in the nation by 247 Sports. That’s a little low by recent UK standards but if the Big Blue Nation has learned anything it’s that Stoops and his staff do a great job at developing talent.
