Another In-State Product Stays Home
Over the last few years, one thing Mark Stoops and his staff have done is keep the best players in Kentucky home. In the 2021 recruiting class six of the 17 players are from the Bluegrass State. One player, in particular, is the next member of the “Big Blue Wall,” the name for the Wildcats offensive line. Let’s learn more about him with the Kentucky recruiting profile on Jager Burton.
Some Big Time Offers
The six-foot-four 270 pound Burton, whose first name is pronounced “Jagger” like the Rolling Stones frontman, had a who’s who of teams vying for his services. However in the end the Frederick Douglas offensive guard chose the hometown Cats over Alabama, Cincinnati, Clemson, and Michigan State. Burton announced his decision on August 30th in a ceremony at KSBar, a local restaurant owned by Kentucky Sports Radio host Matt Jones.

Burton ranks as the 135th best player in the nation by 247 Sports. In addition, he tops the list of best players in Kentucky and the ninth-best offensive guard in the nation. Rivals also put him as the number one player in the state of Kentucky. Recently he was selected to the U.S Army All-American Bowl, scheduled for January 2nd, but won’t be played this year due to COVID-19. He joins Vito Tisdale and Darian Kinnard as recent Wildcats selected for the game. It’s more proof how Stoops has changed the Kentucky program by the talent he’s bringing in.
How He Fits In
Kentucky loses quite a few members from the “Big Blue Wall” after this season. Guard Luke Fortner along with center Drake Jackson and tackle Landon Young all graduate. In addition Kinnard, a junior could gauge interest from the NFL as well. While the Cats have several younger players ready to step up the chance for playing time is certainly there.
Unfortunately, when Burton gets to Lexington he’ll have a new offensive line coach. As most of you know longtime coach John Schlarman passed away last month after a two-year battle with cancer. That means he and all the lineman will not only have to get used to a new coach but more than likely new schemes as well.
