The University of Michigan has added its first wide receiver to its recruiting class. Four-star wide receiver recruit A.J. Henning has committed to the Wolverines. Henning is looking to strengthen the receiving corps for Michigan that has lost some key pieces in the last couple of years.

Who Is A.J. Henning?

A.J. Henning was born in Frankfort, Illinois. He comes from a sports family, where his Grandfather, Quinn Richardson, played basketball for the University of Illinois from 1979 to 1984.

Henning attended Lincoln-Way East High School, where he was a part of an undefeated team that went to the state championship in 2019. In his senior year, Henning recorded 52 caught passes for 835 yards and 13 touchdowns. He also was a critical asset on special teams, using his speed and agility to generate one punt return and a two-point conversion.

Henning’s performance earned him four-star recruit honours from 247Sports and Rivals.com. On ESPN300, Henning is ranked 108th, where he is the 16th best wide receiver in the country and the top player from Illinois. In addition, he was an all-state selection in 2019 and was a member of the All-American Game.

Given that Michigan was 50th in the country in offensive passing yards, having a quality receiver will strengthen this team’s pass offense in the future.
