Garrett Greene Joins the Mountaineers
Neal Brown wasted no time after his January 2019 arrival to Morgantown in building the future of the Mountaineer football program. He reached out immediately to several prospects, including Tallahassee signal-caller Garrett Greene. Greene was a great early commitment for Brown because he has already proven to be a leader off the field for the 2020 class. Greene has been a vocal recruiter for West Virginia both on social media and in person. And, now, with the signing of his letter of intent, Garrett Greene joins the Mountaineers’ 2020 recruiting class.
Greene Already Part Of The Team
Greene offers the Mountaineers no shortage of character and leadership. As a testament to those qualities, we offer this. In November, Greene traveled all the way up to West Virginia to watch fellow signee Zach Frazier and his team play in the opening round of the playoffs. Here’s the tweet:

Given that Frazier is a prime candidate to be Greene’s future center, the bond between those two should play dividends. Regardless, that level of commitment to his future teammates demonstrates maturity beyond his years. There are countless other examples of Greene offering support to both his future teammates and his team. He has acted as “lead recruiter” for a lot of the incoming 2020 talent. That plays nicely with the blue-collar mentality Brown is building in his locker room.
On the field, Greene was an Elite 11 finalist and led his high school team (Chiles) to a rare playoff bid, one of only a few in its history. Greene did so with both his arm and his legs. His film shows a deceptive quickness that should offer Brown’s offense a capable dual-threat quarterback in a couple of years. Other school certainly took notice, as Florida State, against whom the Mountaineers will open their 2020 season, made a late push to recruit Greene, which he quickly rebuffed.
Nonetheless, Greene suffered a late-season blow to his ranking, falling just outside of the coveted 4-star category. But make no mistake, Greene provides the Mountaineers a young, mature quarterback. He will certainly compete to earn respect, playing time, and wins. As one of Brown’s first commitments after coming to Morgantown, we welcome Greene to the Mountaineers’ 2020 recruiting class, which we will recap after the conclusion of the Early Signing Period.
