Dan Mullen and the Florida Gators coaching staff have signed one of their top defensive commits. Four-star defensive end Antwaun Powell has signed his NLI to the University of Florida. Important to note, Mullen likes Powell’s skill set as he’s a perfect fit and can really make a huge impact on the Florida Gators defense in the future. But, Powell is the only defensive end to sign with the Gators 2020 recruiting class.
Who is Antwaun Powell?
Powell is a four-star defensive end out of Indian River High School in Portsmouth, Virginia. The newest Florida signee is one of the top defensive ends in the country. However, Florida battled Michigan for the services of Powell. Powell signed with Florida over Georgia Tech, Miami, Michigan, Nebraska, Norte Dame, Oklahoma and Penn State.
Notably, on ESPN, Powell is the 31st ranked recruit and the fifth-ranked defensive end in the country. Comparatively, on the 247 Sports Composite Rankings, Powell is the 180th ranked recruit and the tenth-ranked weak-side defensive end in the country. For this reason, the Gators have added a top pass rusher who could really make an impact in the future. Powell will play in the Under Armour All-American Game. However, being an early enrollee, Powell will have the opportunity to get early the playbook and get in the weight room with Coach Savage.
