Jovial Giant Hopes To Play In NBA For 10th Season in 2024-25

Wherever Boban Marjanovic has played, he has been a fan favorite. The seven-foot-four jovial giant first joined the NBA at age 27 in 2015 with the San Antonio Spurs. Marjanovic has played for six teams in his career: the Spurs, Detroit Pistons, Los Angeles Clippers, Philadelphia 76ers, Dallas Mavericks, and Houston Rockets. He has played each of the last nine seasons in the league, leaving him one year shy of a 10-year career. The recently turned 36-year-old (birthday on August 15) is currently an unrestricted free agent after playing last season for Houston. Marjanovic is waiting to see if he gets a call to take part in the 2024-25 season for the NBA.

Will Be Paticipating In Dragic’s Retirement Game

Marjanovic is currently in his home country of Serbia. That is because he will be taking part in Goran Dragic’s much-talked about retirement game. The game will feature well-known players that are both active and retired such as Dragic, Luka Doncic, Steve Nash, Chris Bosh, Dirk Nowitzki, Nikola Jokic, and Nikola Vucevic.

While there, he interviewed with Meridian Sport (article is written in Serbian). It seems like Marjanovic is happy with his current life, but he still remains hopeful that an NBA team will come calling for the upcoming season.

“Every time you make plans, it doesn’t work out” Marjanovic said. “Plans always change. Here, I first wanted to come by plane, but we arrived by car. I have no plans. I enjoy every segment of life. I’m waiting for the NBA, but if it doesn’t happen, there is a lot on paper going on. But let’s move on.”

Playing for Team Luka on Saturday for “The Night of the Dragon”, perhaps Marjanovic can make an impression to an NBA team as there will surely be plenty of eyes on the game.

Marjanovic’s Most Productive Outings

As mentioned, Marjanovic has played the last nine seasons in the NBA. While the center has never had a season where he received a lot of playing time, he’s had some very productive games. On March 11, 2020 while playing for Dallas, he scored a career-high 31 points while also grabbing 17 rebounds. He had 27 points and 12 rebounds with the Pistons on April 7, 2017. Marjanovic secured a career-high 20 rebounds on August 13, 2020, also while with the Mavericks. He also scored 18 points in that outing.

Marjanovic had a viral moment to end last season in what potentially could be his last NBA game. The Rockets were in Los Angeles to take on the Clippers. Marjanovic played 56 games for the Clippers in 2017-18 and 2018-19. With Houston having the win secured towards the end of the game, he went to the foul line. After missing the first, he began pointing at himself and playing along with the crowd. Why is that? The Clippers had a promotion where if the opposing team’s player misses consecutive free throws, the fans all get a free Chick-Fil-A chicken sandwich. Marjanovic intentionally missed the second, sending the fans home happy and full.

In 331 career regular season games, Marjanovic has averages of 5.5 points and 3.6 rebounds in 8.7 minutes per contest.
