Kevin Durant Called ‘Weak’ By Brooklyn Nets Guard

Kevin Durant isn’t afraid to speak his mind on social media. The 35-year-old NBA superstar is often found responding to others on X who may be making disparaging remarks about him. He doesn’t discriminate, Durant will respond to a well-known figure or someone with one follower.

There are some that appreciate Durant speaking his mind and his candidness with fans of the game. Others call him thin-skinned, petty, and sensitive for allowing people who shouldn’t matter to him, matter.

Another word for Durant that has now been thrown out about him is weak. That word came from a fellow current NBA player.

Schroder’s Comments After Bronze Medal Game Loss

Dennis Schroder is a 30-year-old (turns 31 on September 15) point guard currently on the Brooklyn Nets. Schroder participated for Germany in the 2024 Paris Olympics. They fell in the bronze medal game to Serbia, resulting in a fourth-place finish. Schroder had these comments at the press conference after the bronze medal game.

“European basketball is no entertainment. It’s straight IQ basketball, straight coaching, and really, really high-IQ guys who know how to play the game.”

While it’s unclear if what Schroder said was a direct shot at Team USA, Durant clearly took it as so.

Durant’s Response After Team USA Gold Medal Win

Durant and Team USA played in the gold medal game against France, the same day (just hours later) after Schroder’s postgame comments. Team USA won their fifth-straight gold medal in men’s basketball with a 98-87 win. Durant went to X, tweeting out something clearly in response to Schroder’s comments.

Schroder’s Response On Twitch Following Durant’s Tweet

Schroder is a Twitch streamer, and he decided on that platform, to respond to Durant. Schroder made these comments while streaming on Twitch.

“They won, and Kevin Durant tweets, ‘High IQ and entertainment.’ For me, that’s just being weak.”

“You’re that type of a star, and you have to say something to a person like me who not even meant it to be negative. It was just what I see from both sides, you know what I’m saying? I didn’t appreciate it,” Schroder continued. “I don’t care, but at the end of the day, that tweet, or whatever he posted, was because of me. For me, it was never no negative stuff. I respect all of those guys, all GOATs, but to say that tells me how weak he is as a person.”

If Durant has yet to catch wind of the comments, surely someone will bring him up to speed. He has responded to plenty of name-calling from others, and he likely isn’t thrilled that Schroder referred to him as being weak.

While Durant and Schroder have never been NBA teammates, Schroder has joined teams that Durant recently left. Durant last played for the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2015-16, and Schroder first played for them in 2017-18. Durant was traded away from the Nets in February of 2023 while Schroder was acquired by them almost exactly a year later.
