Derrick Rose Signs One-Year Contract With Cleveland Cavaliers
Rose’s contract will take him through the end of the 2018 season.
Rose averaged 18 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 4.4 assists per game last season for the New York Knicks. Starting all 64 games he played in, Rose put together a solid season. Despite the awkward situation in New York, Rose had his best season since 2012. Rose’s points, rebounds and minutes played all went up from the previous year. Involved in trade talk around the deadline, Rose’s future with the Knicks was always uncertain.
Looking forward, Rose will provide solid guard play, capable of scoring and running an offense consistently at the point guard position for Cleveland. A capable starter in New York when healthy, Rose can continue playing that role for his new team. The Cavaliers will need Rose to provide quality play at the point guard spot in order to contend for a championship in the 2017-18 campaign.
Rose is heading into his ninth season in the league, during which he’ll be 29 years old. Until this point, he’s played for just two teams. Starting his career with the Chicago Bulls, Rose was traded to New York in 2016. Playing seven seasons with the Bulls, Rose was named the NBA’s youngest ever MVP in 2011. Appearing in three All-Star games, Rose’s career was hindered by injuries, eventually leading to him being traded to the Knicks.
