The Chicago Bulls have announced that guard Dwyane Wade will miss the remainder of the regular season with a small fracture in his elbow. Wade injured the elbow during Wednesday night’s loss to the Memphis Grizzlies.

Report: Dwyane Wade Out for Remainder of Regular Season

The injury to Wade just adds another disaster to the already disastrous season for the Bulls. As a 35-year-old, he had a heavy load as the 2nd option for the team behind Jimmy Butler. Wade has dealt with various injuries throughout the season and was already missing some practices to keep his body fresh if the Bulls were able to sneak into the playoffs.

Going Forward

For the time being, it will be interesting to see what the Bulls decide to do at the starting guard position. It would be expected that rookie Denzel Valentine would get the nod, who has played well as of late. He has scored in double figures the last three games.

Not only does this affect the Bulls in the present, but it also possibly affects them for the future. Wade has a player option of $23.8 million for next season. With money being one of the biggest reasons Wade signed with the Bulls last season, it would be surprising if he turned down the option, unless he decided to choose a better basketball situation for the last stages of his career.

The Bulls are still fighting for a playoff spot. They are currently 10th in the Eastern Conference at 32-36 and are a game back of the Detroit Pistons for the final playoff spot. If the Bulls can find a way to make the playoffs, there is hope that Wade can return.
