The fantasy basketball season is roughly halfway over. Many big-name players are missing time due to injuries and COVID. Because of this, finding the right players off of the waiver wire is more important than ever. Here are some midseason waiver wire pickups. These players are all rostered in less than 40 percent of ESPN leagues.
Midseason Waiver Wire Pickups
Josh Hart – SG/SF
One of the more underrated players in fantasy basketball, Josh Hart is quietly having an excellent season for the New Orleans Pelicans. Over his past six games, however, he has elevated his game to a new level. He is averaging 16.5 points, 9.1 rebounds, and 5.5 assists over that span. With his elite rebounding from the guard position, Hart should be rostered in all leagues. He currently is day to day with an ankle sprain but is worth picking up anyways due to his rest of season outlook.
Omer Yurtseven – C
Over the past two weeks, Omer Yurtseven has been one of the best rebounders in the entire NBA. Yurtseven has not grabbed fewer than 12 rebounds in his last five games. Starter Dewayne Dedmon has missed the last two games and Yurtseven has put up a double-double in both of those games with a starter’s workload. With Bam Adebayo out indefinitely and Dedmon expected to miss a week or two, Yurtseven is the next man up. He may not score a lot, but his rebounding upside can’t be ignored. Even when Dedmon does return, Yurtseven could take the starting job away from him if he keeps rebounding like this.
Daniel Gafford – C
Another great pickup at the center position is Daniel Gafford. With Montrezl Harrell out with covid, Gafford is the only healthy big man that the Washington Wizards have. On Tuesday Gafford posted a 16 point, 11 rebound double-double in 36 minutes. Harrell is expected to miss about a week which means Gafford should be a great streaming option for that stretch. Once Harrell returns, Gafford should go back to playing inconsistent minutes and being a low-end big man to roster.
Cam Reddish – SG/SF
Cam Reddish has heated up over his last four games. He is averaging 23.8 points per game over that stretch for an Atlanta Hawks team that has been decimated by COVID. Reddish has teased us in the past with his upside only to disappear again but his minutes and usage are looking like they are here to stay for the time being. He is worth taking a flier on to see if he can keep this production going.
Marcus Morris – SF/PF
Paul George is expected to miss several weeks with an elbow issue which means a big scoring void is there to be filled in the Los Angeles Clippers’ offense. Marcus Morris is looking to be that guy. On Monday Morris put up 24 points in his return to the lineup and has averaged 19 points and 6 rebounds since the beginning of the month. Only rostered in less than 20 percent of ESPN leagues, now is time to grab Morris before he goes off again.
