Top Ten Power Forwards Entering the 2021-2022 Season
10. Jaren Jackson Jr.
Many players were vying for this tenth and final spot in the list but Jaren Jackson Jr.. prevailed. Jackson is one of the most underrated players in the league. Jackson’s skill set is large as he can score on both the inside and perimeter while playing amazing defense on the other end of the court. The question with Jaren Jackson is will he be able to stay healthy as he only played in 11 games a year ago while recovering from a knee injury. I believe this will be the year Jackson will breakout and may find himself significantly higher on this list next year.
9. Pascal Siakam
Both Pascal Siakam and the Toronto Raptors had a down season a year ago. Siakam had a solid statistical season averaging 21.4 points, 7.2 rebounds, and a career-high 4.5 assists per game. However, Siakam’s three-point percentage took a severe dip down to 29% as well as his overall field goal percentage which went down to 45%. Being back in their native country of Canada, the Raptors led by Siakam should bounce back.
8. John Collins
John Collins was a huge part of the Hawks’ successful run to the Eastern Conference Finals last season. Collins’s pick and roll, as well as pick and pop combo, was Trae Young is a force to be reckoned with. In the regular season, Collins averaged 17.4 points and 7.4 rebounds per game. One very impressive statistic from John Collins was that he shot 41.7% from three in the Hawks ten postseason wins. The Hawks will need Collins to improve his three-point game for continued success.
7. Tobias Harris
With Ben Simmons unlikely to report to the Philadelphia 76ers, Tobias Harris will need to take on a bigger role. Harris may be fully capable of this step up as he had a very underrated season a year ago. He averaged 19.5 points per game while shooting a career-high 51.2 percent from the floor on nearly 15 attempts. Harris is a true bucket getter and his scoring repertoire will be relied on heavily this upcoming season.
6. Draymond Green
Draymond Green will never truly earn the respect he should as an NBA player. Just looking at the box score will never tell the story of how important he is on the court. Green’s intangibles as a player may be the best of all time. The Warriors run their complete offensive and defensive schemes through Draymond Green. He constantly makes his teammates better while being in the Defensive Player of the Year conversation year in and year out. Green is truly a remarkable player.
5. Domantas Sabonis
Domantas Sabonis can do almost everything on a basketball court. Sabonis is great at scoring from both the inside and outside, passing, and rebounding. He is an offensive juggernaut averaging 20.3 points, 6.7 assists, and 12.0 rebounds per game a season ago. However, even with his offensive ability, Sabonis struggles on the defensive end with containing players in space. Improving in this facet of the game could unlock even more possibilities for himself and the Indiana Pacers.
4. Julius Randle
It is very rare to see a mid-career renaissance from a player, but that is exactly what we are seeing with Julius Randle and the New York Knicks. Randle turned himself from an average NBA player to star, averaging 25 plus points two seasons in a row. Since entering the NBA, Randle was seen as a physically dominant player inside. However, this past season Randle shot 41% percent from three which was a 14% percent improvement from the season prior. If Randle continues to improve the Knicks will as well.
3. Zion Williamson
Zion Williamson had a spectacular second season in the NBA. He averaged a whopping 27.0 points and 7.2 rebounds per game at the game of only 21. Williamson looks like a man amongst boys on the interior making 61% percent of his two-point field goal attempts. If Zion continues to improve upon his perimeter shooting and defense he will be one of the most dominant players of all time.
2. Anthony Davis
Coming off of the championship in the bubble, many people believed Anthony Davis would take off even more and win the MVP award. This, however, never happened. Anthony Davis has the overall skill set to be the best player in the NBA. He can score from any position on the floor and is often mentioned as one of the best defenders in the NBA. His only problem is his availability. If Davis stays healthy this season the sky is the limit for the Los Angeles Lakers.
1. Giannis Antetokounmpo
Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks are coming off of an NBA championship this prior season. In the closeout game of the NBA Finals, Antetokounmpo dropped 50 points to knock off the Phoenix Suns. At only the age of 26, Antetokounmpo has a resume of an all-time great. His resume includes two MVP awards, one Defensive Player of the Year award, one Finals MVP award, and an NBA championship. There is no telling what Antetokounmpo could accomplish next as he is just entering his prime.
