The Houston Rockets could be without reserve Gerald Green for a significant period of time due to a foot injury. According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, Green has suffered a broken foot and could be out for a few months. Green suffered the injury in Japan during the Rockets’ preseason matchup against the Toronto Raptors. Charania also reports that Green will seek more medical opinions on the injury.

The Rockets re-signed Green to a one-year deal back in June after the small forward averaged 9.2 points per game, shooting 40 percent from the field last season. Green has also shot better than 35 percent from three-point range in two seasons with the Rockets.

Even though Green is not a starter, he has value as a long defender that can guard multiple positions. He also can be explosive offensively in moments where the Rockets need him the most. Green being sidelined for a significant period of time has a big effect on Rockets, as they lost a back-court player that is a part of their perimeter-oriented system.
Houston Rockets’ Options Moving Forward
As Green recovers from his injury, the Rockets will most likely give guards Austin Rivers and Ben McLemore more action off the bench.
General manager Daryl Morey and others have attempted to shake things up for the Rockets for next season, one significant move being trading for Russell Westbrook in free agency.
Westbrook and James Harden, of course, will be the pinnacle of the Rockets offense. However, it’ll be interesting to see how the bench will play without the presence of Green.
