Eric Gordon and the Houston Rockets have agreed to a four-year max contract extension per multiple sources. The contract extension locks Gordon in for the future as part of the Rockets’ future core.
Houston Rockets and Eric Gordon Agree on Max Extension
Houston Rockets shooting guard Eric Gordon reached an agreement on a max contract extension that will keep him in Houston. The extension adds three-years, $54.5 million onto the last year of his current deal, as ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski provided further details.
In total, the extension gives Gordon a four-year $76 million contract with the Rockets. The extension takes him through the 2022-23 season. The Houston Chronicle first reported that an extension was reached.
The move of extending Eric Gordon shows that the Rockets are betting on this current core group of players. Gordon, 30 years old, has been a key contributor off the bench and in the postseason. In his three seasons in Houston, Gordon has averaged nearly 17 points per game. Eric Gordon also won the 2016-17 NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year Award.
Gordon has been efficient in the regular season but has been even more impactful in the playoffs. The Houston Rockets were in prime position to take command of their 2019 semifinal series against the Golden State Warriors. The year before, the Rockets took the Warriors to a Game 7 in the Western Conference Finals. Eric Gordon’s three-point shooting was a vital part of Houston staying in reach of Golden State.
Now with the Warriors’ dynasty run on hold, the door is as wide open as its ever been in the West. Houston has made moves this summer to take advantage, namely the trade of Chris Paul for Russell Westbrook. Now with his max extension, Eric Gordon joins James Harden, Westbrook, and Clint Capela in making a run for the Western Conference crown.
