The fall recruiting season is kicking into high gear of late, with a flurry of 2026 four-star commitments in recent days and more likely on the horizon. Given the transfer portal’s explosion, revenue-sharing and other factors, things had gotten off to a slower start than usual when it came to verbal pledges in the 2026 class.

The period began earlier this month with high school prospects visiting college campuses. Additionally, college coaches are making trips to players’ open gyms at their high schools or conducting in-home visits. Given these developments, commitments are starting to pour in for college programs around the country.
One of the latest verbal pledges went to Big Ten Conference member Maryland. On Tuesday, four-star power forward Adama Tambedou verbally committed to the Terrapins. The 6-foot-8 Tambedou, out of the powerhouse Putnam Science Academy in Putnam, Conn., is a top-100 national prospect and a top-20 power forward in the 2026 class. He picked Maryland over Oklahoma State, and it’s a great recruiting win for new Terrapins head coach Buzz Williams.
As Fall Recruiting Picks Up, ACC School is on Fire
In recent days, Atlantic Coast Conference member Stanford has landed two verbal commitments, giving the Cardinal three pledges in a 2026 cycle that is now No. 3 overall, per the industry-generated 247Sports Composite. Aziz Olajuwon, a four-star wing/small forward, picked Stanford over Cincinnati, Houston and Vanderbilt.
The 6-foot-7 Olajuwon is the son of NBA legend and former Houston Cougars standout Hakeem Olajuwon. For the Cardinal to beat out Houston in Aziz Olajuwon’s recruitment is impressive. The top-40 national prospect will spend his senior year at the juggernaut IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla.
Fall Recruiting has Produced More 4-Star Pledges
Atlantic 10 Conference school George Mason won out for 2026 four-star power forward and top-85 national prospect Shane Pendergrass. The 6-foot-8 Pendergrass picked the Patriots over a final group that also featured California, Louisiana Tech, La Salle, Duquesne and Boise State. He is a senior at the Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, Va.
