Jalen Brunson of the Villanova Wildcats was selected as the Big East Player of the Year on Wednesday. The selection took place during an awards ceremony on Wednesday at Madison Square Garden. Brunson was also selected as the conference’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Brunson joins Kerry Kittles, Randy Foye, Ryan Arcidiacono and Josh Hart as the only Wildcats to win this award. Hart did it last year so Villanova will have the Player of the Year on their roster for two straight seasons.

Brunson’s season so far
The junior is averaging 19 points and 4.8 assists for the Wildcats this season who sit at 27-4. Brunson received his honors on Wednesday before the tip of the Big East Tournament. Villanova will be the two seed looking to win the tournament for a second straight season.
Brunson notched his season high in points on the road against Marquette and Temple when he dropped 31 points. He has 11 games of 20 or more points so far this season. The Wildcats will likely enter the NCAA Tournament as a top two seed in their region thanks in large part to the play of Brunson.
A three-year starter and winner of a national championship as a freshman, Brunson has a lot of experience in the tournament. He has taken the next step to becoming a superstar in his junior season and it will only get better next year if he sticks around for his fourth year.
