Anthony Edwards On Pace To Become Third To Reach This Feat

In recent weeks, Minnesota Timberwolves star guard Anthony Edwards has made comments showing his frustration and displeasure with what has been going on this season. Whether it’s about the team not having an identity on offense, or his constantly getting double-teamed, Edwards has shown no qualms about letting his feelings known to the public.

The Timberwolves defeated the Pelicans 104-97 on Tuesday. It was their second straight win and improved their record to 19-17. While they have underachieved compared to preseason expectations, there is still more than half of the regular season remaining. In the win over New Orleans, Anthony Edwards dropped 32 points which connecting on seven three-pointers on 11 attempts. The 23-year-old now is on pace to become the third player ever to make 350 three-pointers in a season.

Anthony Edwards Now On Pace To Connect On 350+ Three-Pointers

After making seven three-pointers on Tuesday, Edwards has now made 154 from beyond the arc in 36 games. That is just shy of 4.3 made per contest, and it puts him on pace to hit around 351 on the season.

His three-pointers made pace has increased substantially in his three most recent games. On Monday, Edwards hit six in a win over the Los Angeles Clippers. Last Saturday, the first overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft nailed 10 from deep in what was a loss to the Detroit Pistons. So that is 23 made threes in three games for Edwards.

Not only has the five-year pro increased the volume of threes that he has attempted, Edwards has also increased his accuracy. The 6-foot-4 guard is shooting 42.9% from three-point range thus far on the season. Entering 2024-25, Edwards was a career 35.3% shooter from three-point territory, fairly close to league-average.

Now, Edwards’ pace would dip if he were forced to miss any games later on in the season. He hasn’t missed any thus far. Edwards has proven to be someone who doesn’t miss many games though. He didn’t miss any in his first two seasons, and three apiece in each of the last two.

Just Two Others Have Made 350 In A Season

There have been just two players in league history that have made at least 350 three-pointers in a season. With 46 games remaining, Edwards is on pace to become the third.

One of the players who has done so should not surprise anyone. That would be Golden State Warriors sharpshooter Stephen Curry. Now 36 years old, the two-time MVP is the all-time leader with 3,876 made threes. In 2015-16, Curry set a single-season record with 402 three-pointers. He also has two other seasons where he has connected on at least 350 from beyond the arc (354 in 2018-19,  357 in 2023-24).

The other player to accomplish the feat is James Harden. He did so in 2017-18 while with the Houston Rockets. Harden connected on 378 three-pointers that season while averaging an extraordinary 36.1 points. Harden has made 3,035 three-pointers in his career (currently still playing with the Los Angeles Clippers). That is the second-most all-time, only behind Curry.

Edwards will look to continue his pace on Thursday when Minnesota takes on the Orlando Magic.
