Chennedy Carter was one of the most exciting storylines for the 2026 WNBA season. In 2025, Carter went unsigned, which prompted her to sit out the season. Ahead of the 2026 season, the Las Vegas Aces signed Carter to a contract, allowing her to step back onto the WNBA court. This was a great moment for the young player, as she was finally getting a chance to show off her skills once more.
However, Carter’s performance was not enough to keep her in the league, and the Aces ultimately waived her on July 7.
3 WNBA Teams That Should Consider Picking Up Chennedy Carter
Although she was waived a few weeks ago, Carter has still gone unsigned so far. Several signs point to Carter being a nuisance in the locker room; however, her skills on the court are what teams should be looking at. There is a chance that her time with the Aces could have been her last chance on a WNBA court, but in case there are other teams that are looking for another chance to get in the win column, here are three teams that should take a look at signing Carter.
Mystics
There is no denying that the Washington Mystics are a strong, young team. They are currently ranked eighth overall in the standings, with 12 wins and 12 losses for the season thus far. The Mystics have eight rookies on their roster. Sonia Citron, Kiki Iriafen, and Lucy Olsen are all in their second WNBA season. The most senior player on the team is Michaela Onyenwere, who has five seasons of WNBA experience.
Carter only has four seasons of true WNBA experience, but that doesn’t negate her points performance. She has been steady on the court for Las Vegas this season, putting up double-digit points in eight of her 13 games. Washington might be young, but Carter could be the spark that the Mystics need to jump-start them through the rest of the season.
Wings
The Dallas Wings have been steadily climbing the rankings ladder, currently sitting in fourth place overall, which is a great jump from last season, when they ended 2025 in last place. With a new head coach on the bench and the last two No. 1 overall draft picks, the Wings are finally a contending team, like they want to be. After being a part of a historic game, the Wings will want to continue their great season.
It is clear that the chemistry amongst the Wings players is strong, but bringing in Carter could increase that point production they need. The Wings have a healthy mix of young players and older players, so that Carter would fit right in as a veteran presence. She could be a helping hand on the bench, coming in to add to the points the starters Paige Bueckers, Azzi Fudd, Jessica Shepard, etc. are contributing.
Storm
Unlike last season, the Seattle Storm are struggling. They just snagged a playoff spot by the skin of their teeth last season, but this season, the Storm are in last place with just six wins and 21 losses.
Seattle lost several players in the offseason due to free agency. Stars Nneka Ogwumike, Skylar Diggins, and Gabby Williams all signed with new teams. The Storm managed to pick up some veteran presence themselves, signing Jade Melbourne, Stefanie Dolson, and Natasha Heideman. However, the majority of the Storm’s roster is comprised of younger players.
There isn’t a lot going right for the Storm this season, so now is a great chance to see if another player can add to an already struggling team. Carter has proven capable of producing points, and the Storm consistently collapse in the third quarter. If they stick Carter on the court during this time, perhaps she could help with the points production and eliminate the collapse. It doesn’t hurt to give it a try.
Carter Should Get Another Chance
Carter has undoubtedly great basketball skills. She is great on the court, and although she might not be fantastic in the locker room, her points production and minutes on the floor counteract that. At 27 years old, Carter might not have many chances to continue fulfilling her dreams of playing in the WNBA. Hopefully, that clock hasn’t run out on her just yet.
