The Portland Trail Blazers had one of the most encouraging 2025-26 campaigns in the NBA. Deni Avdija‘s rise to stardom raised their ceiling, but it could get even better with Damian Lillard‘s impact in his return. However, a blockbuster Giannis Antetokounmpo Blazers trade could be in the works.
Can A Blockbuster Giannis-Blazers Trade Actually Work?
After a promising 2025-26 season that saw them return to the postseason, the Portland Trail Blazers are promising yet again. Led by Avdija, they won the Play-In Tournament against the Phoenix Suns. They played against the San Antonio Spurs in the first round and were promptly beaten 4-1.
Despite the humbling end to the 2025-26 season, the Trail Blazers can be quite a promising team moving forward. Avdija is not the only star on the roster anymore because Lillard’s impact will be immense. He was already a franchise player in Portland before; he can do it all over again. It could get even better if they can pull off the rumored Antetokounmpo trade.
Portland’s Future Is Already Quite Promising
Avdija and Lillard are not the only players who can spearhead a promising future in Portland. Young players like Scoot Henderson, Shaedon Sharpe, and Donovan Clingan could be franchise cornerstones moving forward. They might have had a tough postseason run, but they are already working on growth.
The young core is one of the best in the league, and they could get even better with the right leadership. They have shared the locker room with Jrue Holiday in the 2025-26 season, which has had a legitimate impact already. Playing with Lillard could make them even better.
The Blazers will be a team to monitor on the trade market this offseason.
Portland will have valuable draft capital and young prospects like Scoot Henderson and Shaedon Sharpe to chase a star if desired. The Blazers could be intrigued after an encouraging season.

The younger players are not the only promising players on the roster because the Blazers also have Toumani Camara. The Belgian forward is the Blazers’ top perimeter defender, and he is a fantastic defensive playmaker. His ability to draw offensive fouls, get steals, and block shots makes him a tough matchup.
Whenever a young core is brought up, their future is always at the center of the conversation. However, there could also be another aspect, and that is their trade value. With a potential Antetokounmpo trade getting traction in the rumor mill, the younger players could be part of the package.
A Giannis-Blazers Trade Raises The Team’s Ceiling
Any NBA fan can agree that having a superstar is the shortcut to winning a championship. With Lillard’s return, the Blazers already have one, but with a trade, anything is possible. The biggest rumor the Blazers have going is a move for Antetokounmpo.
While the Greek forward could stay in Milwaukee, the organization can still end up trading him by embracing their rebuild. The Antetokounmpo trade might be the best possible scenario, especially with Portland having Milwaukee’s draft picks.
The Portland Trail Blazers are expected to emerge as a prime trade suitor for Giannis Antetokounmpo, per @JakeLFischer

Combine those picks with big contracts like Jerami Grant and some of the promising prospects, and the Blazers could pull off the trade. It will be difficult for general manager Joe Cronin to do, but those draft picks could be the key to unlocking this trade.
Antetokounmpo would suddenly accelerate Portland’s future because he is in the middle of his physical prime. At 31, he will want to win a championship before he fully experiences his 30s. It will be quite intriguing, but the fit will also be quite interesting.
Playing alongside Lillard should be good since they have experience over two seasons. They might not have been the optimal partnership back then, but they could be better in a new environment. Avdija and Antetokounmpo could have overlapping playstyles, which has convinced some people that he might not be the long-term star; he could be the central piece in the trade.
Lillard’s Impact Could Make The Blazers A Contender
With Lillard as the face of the franchise again after a couple of seasons away, Portland could be back as a top team. The Western Conference is quite competitive, but the summer of 2026 will be a massive stage for the Trail Blazers.
They have a new ownership group led by Tom Dundon. That could mean Portland’s future is even brighter than expected. They would love to make a big splash, and that could be done through a trade for the Greek Freak. Even without it, the Blazers have some promising players who could continue their quest for contention.
